“Walkivator”?! Surely one of the most ridiculous ideas ever.

TfL/YMCA Walkivator:
Transport for London and Central YMCA are working together to improve London’s
air quality through the Workplace Walkivator programme. As part of this, we would
like to offer one of your employees free training to become a Walkivator Champion.
Why should you take part?
Walking is underestimated as a means of transport within business. With the right
skills and knowledge you can introduce more walking in your organisation and benefit
from significant cost savings on unnecessary forms of business travel. In addition,
walking will help contribute towards your carbon and environmental goals.
Even relatively small changes in behaviour can have positive impacts on profitability,
improve the working environment and the health of your employees.
The Workplace Walkivator training programme
Our one-day training session will provide your Walkivator Champion with the skills to
engage effectively with people across your organisation and change attitudes
towards walking. It covers:
• How to break down accessibility barriers and common misconceptions over
distance, time and effort; and
• Promoting walking within your business and to visitors to encourage it as part
of business travel and commuting.
The training day will include:
• Information on the health benefits of walking and cycling;
• How to foster workplace health;
• How to lead a guided walks programme;
• The principles of behaviour change and social marketing; and
• Introduction to your own bespoke toolkit full of activity ideas and signposting.
A successful Walkivator Champion will have:
• An interest and commitment to physical activity and fitness;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; and
• Confidence and organisational skills.
