Trivial Trivia

Playing Trivial Pursuit the other day I decided to list some of the things that came up which were of interest and look them up afterward. Here’s the result:
Marc Welch

“Mr Welch, a BBC television researcher, died from head injuries without regaining consciousness before his parents arrived from Kong Kong. He had not been wearing a helmet, and suffered a fractured skull and suspected brain damage.”

The ‘Elf and Safety had a field day as one might imagine.

Population Density

Eurostat only compare with UK. ONS split out UK figures.

England’s population density is estimated at 411/km^2 in Mid-2012 (ONS) whicih puts England quite a bit above the rest of the UK who are generally fourth most densly populated at around 257/km^2 behind Malta, first, at 1,327.4/km^2The Netherlands, second with 496.9/km^2, Belgium at367/km^2. Thus while the UK are fourth England would be third.

Antimatter Creation at CERN in 1996

First time anti-matter was created very briefly in 1996. 18 years later, this year, they created the first beam of anti-matter!

Noel Gallagher vs. Kylie Minogue

“Demonic little idiot” Hilarious.

Gianni Versace

Slain on the steps of his South Beach castle by 27 year old gay prostitue Andrew Cunanan. Mob or not?

Principalities in Europe

There are three formal principalities in Europe: Andorra, Liechtenstein and Monaco.
Superman – Illinois?

There is a real place called Metropolis in Illinois. That said Clark Kent was brought up in Kansas and the original Metropolis was modelled on Toronto and later New York.

Andrés Escobar

In 1994 scored an own goal and was subsequently murdered and this was attributed to being penalty for his goal. He was Colombian so that’s a real shame. Even Columbia didn’t execute him for losing the match.
