In around November of 2007, I blogged about a new route I was trialing, around the Seine in Paris.
Jogging
Since I’ve just returned to live in Paris after 12 years, I thought it might be fun to try a re-run.
I did always love the route until I hurt my knee a few months into jogging it and was put off.
In those days since the iPhone had only just been launched I was sporting an analogue watch alongside a “Palm” mobile device and a Pure portable DAB digital radio, I had to map the route manually and time it as best I could with a stop-watch function on said radio!
Nowadays, Apple has me covered. It’s an amazing thing that in 12 years we’ve gone from all of that cumbersome tech (At the time it seemed pretty cutting edge!) to a pair of wireless Apple ear-pods and a watch and that was absolutely all I needed to take with me. I did though add in a MyZone chest heart rate monitor and a surgical face mask since the latter is required outdoors in Paris currently whilst walking to and from the jogging route.
The MyZone heart-rate data allows me to reassure myself. I may have felt like I was dying but I clearly wasn’t! Didn’t even get into HR Zone 5!
MapMyFitness and Apple are really not playing nicely with WordPress so I’ve had to convert the run into a .gpx file in order to share it. I’m going to have to move to some other platform because this was far too much hassle!
But here it is, for the first time in 12 years. A lot of improvement needed but I’m in the mood, so stay tuned.
On a separate note, my 2,000m swimming speeds have improved markedly since returning to Paris from a hopeless c. 47 minutes with about 5 minutes resting to a much more satisfactory 35’41”, so far. I’m not even going to begin on how complicated it’ll be to share any of that from swim.com to WordPress!
